Personal Note

I am a Ph.D. candidate under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. Sahin Albayrak in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Technical University of Berlin. I am working as a Researcher in the DAI Laboratory, Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Technical University of Berlin, where I am coordinating the research and teaching activities in power and energy systems. My research interests include power system operations, planning, and economics; forecasting and its applications in power systems; and optimization under uncertainty. Specifically, I leverage data-driven distributionally robust optimization techniques to expressly address the uncertainty inherent in unit commitment and economic dispatch problems. Further, I exploit recurrent neural network architectures to perform time series forecasting so as to aid in the short-term planning of power systems. résumé/CV | LinkedIn

Short Bio

Ogün Yurdakul received the Bachelor of Science degree in electrical and electronics engineering from Boğaziçi University, Istanbul, Turkey, in 2016, and the Master of Science degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, IL, USA, in 2018. He is currently pursuing the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering and computer science with the Technical University of Berlin, Berlin, Germany. He is currently the Head of the Energy Group, DAI Laboratory, Technical University of Berlin. Since 2018, he has been working as a Researcher and a Lecturer with the Technical University of Berlin. He was previously employed by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, as a Research Assistant and a Teaching Assistant. His research interests include power system operations, planning, and economics; optimization under uncertainty; and forecasting and its applications in power systems,. Mr. Yurdakul was a Fulbright Scholar during his studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is a member of IEEE Power and Energy Society.
